New DEP Environmental Enforcement Chief Named

John Giordano, a former deputy secretary at the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, has been appointed as the Department of Environmental Protection’s Assistant Commissioner for Compliance and Enforcement. As PA’s Deputy Secretary, Giordano served as the agency’s chief administrative and fiscal officer including maintaining oversight of approximately 2300 full-time and seasonal personnel and a budget of $300 million. He also served as a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia, and as Counselor to the Assistant Attorney General for the Environment and Natural Resources Division at the U.S. Department of Justice. Mr. Giordano takes over for Wolfgang Skacel who retired after 29 years of service within DEP.
