New Jersey's Chief Economist Addresses Members

At this week’s Financial Decision Makers Roundtable meeting in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey’s top economist, Charles Steindel, shared his thoughts and views on New Jersey’s economy.  Mr. Steindel mentioned that New Jersey added 60,000 jobs in 2012, mainly in the healthcare and education sectors and that job growth is trending up despite New Jersey’s unemployment standing at 8.7%, which is higher than the federal unemployment rate of 7.5%.  Joining Mr. Steindel in the discussion was Alex Heil, The Port Authority of NY/NJ’s chief economist and Patrick O’Keefe of CohnReznick.  The panelists discussed various issues such as possible rise in interest rates, the reasons why companies are not hiring despite sitting on profits and record growth to the housing market.
